WOODRUFF ARTS CENTER
40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:
“Remembering our Past and Celebrating our Future”
In 1968, the Woodruff Arts Center was founded as a memorial to the members of Atlanta’s arts community who were tragically lost when their plane crashed at Orly Airport. Never a static monument, the Center has, from its first day, been committed to preserving their legacy through artistic excellence, arts education, and the creation of a Village for the Arts that the entire community can enjoy. Today the Woodruff Arts Center includes the Alliance Theatre, High Museum of Art, Young Audiences, 14th Street Playhouse and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Our 40th Anniversary provides an important opportunity to reflect upon our past success, thank those who have contributed so strongly to our efforts, and to celebrate our future promise. From October 16th through October 20th, we will offer 40 hours of diverse programming that will highlight the accomplishments of the Center and the excellence of each of our Divisions, recognize and honor those leaders that have given tirelessly to our work, embrace other community arts organizations while sharing our vision for a future focused on the arts, education, and our community. The celebration will culminate with a reception to honor current and former trustees, Divisional board members and donors. The Strategic Plan for the future of the Center will also be launched during the October 20th program, highlighting Woodruff Arts Center’s plans for the next forty years of arts excellence.
Forty years of success provide a strong foundation on which to build, one that will allow us to achieve our mission of becoming a standard-bearer in the national arts community, revitalizing arts programming and to attract a new generation of patrons and art lovers, and providing opportunities for education that will make a lasting impact on our community. We invite our donors, friends, patrons, community arts partners and local arts organizations to participate in our 40th Anniversary Celebration and enjoy forty hours of arts programming to reflect on our past achievements and celebrate the future of the Woodruff Arts Center and the community we serve.
