Assistant House Manager (Temporary/Part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Assistant House Manager is quick on their feet, cool under pressure, flexible, and the ultimate team player. Before, during, and after a show, the theater can be a fast-paced environment with 600+ audience members coming through the doors. The Assistant House Manager must be able to manage a team of volunteer ushers, work with stage management and multi-task, all with a smile.  The Assistant House Manager should have exceptional customer service skills and a desire to go above and beyond to ensure an optimal patron experience.

 

Work Schedule:

·       Part-Time, Seasonal; Tuesday-Sunday, weekday evening and weekend availability/ability to work 2-3 shifts per week during the run of a show

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Performance Duties:

·       Arrive at theater approximately 2 hours prior to performance. Assess cleanliness and any maintenance issues of theater and lobby area. 

·       Check phone messages for office and hotline for last minute usher cancellations or additions. Give preshow orientation to ushers.  

·       Coordinate with Stage Manager on any special events associated with performance and opening the house. Manage entrance of audience to theater.  Assist ushers as necessary.  Greet all patrons.  Respond to patron requests (i.e., sound issues, temperature control, seating requests).  Address issues with proper department (maintenance, security, production, or Stage Manager). Manage distribution of hearing devices for hearing impaired patrons.

·       Assist ticketing/seating problems.  Coordinate with box office on resolutions.

·       Coordinate with Groups Sales, Community Engagement and WAC Special Events on any special groups, receptions or events associated with our performance.

·       Return house to Stage Management for performance.  Report any necessary delays to SM (i.e., parking or ticketing dilemmas).

·       Manage late seating.  Inform late patrons of policy and coordinate with ushers the seating of patrons as appropriate to policy.

·       Run TESSITURA Performance Attendance report and merge into House Manager Report.

·       Deal with any performance problems as necessary (cameras, crying/noisy children, ill patrons).

·       Manage exit and entrance of audience at intermission and exit of audience at conclusion of performance.

·       Prepare written report of performance. Print report for file. Distribute report via email distribution.

·       Coordinate with security on lost and found items.

·       Close and secure house.

 

Post-Show Duties:

·       Follow up on any problem areas from show.

·       Coordinate with upcoming performance House Managers any necessary information or procedural changes. Coordinate with departments on problem areas.

·       Generate maintenance requests for any problem areas (lights out, broken seats, etc.)

·       Coordinate with departments on House Policies and make changes as necessary due to problem areas (i.e., late seating, beverages, etc.).

Education and Experience:

·       High School Diploma and relevant experience in the field.

·       Preference for candidates with a background in theater and/or customer service.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

·       Reliable transportation required.

 

Skills and Abilities:

·       Strong oral and written communications skills are essential.

·       Ability to handle and balance many responsibilities in a calm and efficient manner.

·       High level of self direction, self-motivation and ability to set priorities.

·       Can work effectively as both a team player and also as a team leader

·       Ability to solve practical problems with minimal supervision.
