Graphic Designer (Regular/ Full-time)

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Creative Services, the Graphic Designer will assist in concept development and design of such graphic applications as collateral material, advertising, exhibition graphics, wayfinding, and museum identity packages, direct mail, online banners, from conception to completion.

 

Work Schedule:

·          Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM (As needed)

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

·          Create graphic elements using the typefaces, color palette, and overall graphic design that has been established for the exhibition that are accessible, consistent with the overall design vision, and that will convey the messages of the exhibition to the visitors.

·          Document all graphics in an easily retrieved manner for purposes of fabrication, installation, and archival records.

·          Assist the Graphic Technician with installation and maintenance of all exhibition related graphics and public signage.

·          Must be familiar with vinyl, scotch print, and dry-ink transfer installation techniques.

·          Work with museum staff by participating fully in team meetings, understanding overall content messages and project design direction.

·          Assist in maintaining the graphics workspaces, ordering supplies, keeping equipment maintained, and assisting others in the use of equipment.

·          Take and select photographs that illustrate particular themes and augment the written and visual message.

·          Use computer graphics software and hardware to develop original graphic elements and composite image medium for production; produce graphics elements in-house as needed.

·          Collaborate with the other designers, production shop, suppliers, and other professionals outside the museum as needed to assist in identifying new sustainable materials, new production techniques, and current trends in graphic design that will enhance our ability to create a high-quality exhibition.

·          Assist the Creative Services Department in all aspects of the printing process; prepare files for printing at the supplier, monitor quality of printed product, and other tasks as needed.

·          Design online advertising (static to motion-based graphics) from animated gifts to HTML5.

·          Perform other work-related duties as required by the Senior Manager of Creative Services.

Education and Experience:

·          Undergraduate degree in graphic design is preferred.

·          Four years experience at an agency, studio, or in-house design department is required.

·          Must have experience in exhibition graphics installation.

·          Ability to effectively present information.

·          Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

·          Ability to solve problems and prioritize needs in a variety of situations.

 

Skills and Abilities:

·          Must be well-organized, detailed oriented, and highly respectful to deadlines.

·          Expert knowledge of MAC & Windows Platforms: Adobe CS Master Collection (complete suite), Quark Xpress, Microsoft Office, Silverfast, SCALA Info Channel Suite, Suitcase, Fetch; Epson and Canon Scanners and proofing printers.

·          Must have a “can do” attitude.

·         Some standing, walking, bending, frequent use of hands, stooping and light lifting (at least 40-50 pounds) and climb ladders as needed.
