Thanks to the generous support of Turner, Celebrate Diversity Through the Arts provides resources to support a collaborative program of building awareness and participation of multicultural audiences in a variety of events that occur in our city. We hope that through the arts presented by artists from around the world we can discover what entertains us as well as the common threads that run through us all.

This journey began with Spirit and Splendor, which celebrated the depth, diversity, and influence of African-American arts in Atlanta. It now continues and includes that same depth, diversity, and influence that all cultures bring to our great city. The Woodruff Arts Center and its member organizations, The High Museum of Art, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Alliance Theatre, Atlanta College of Art and 14th Street Playhouse, invite you to take this journey with us.

The arts have always provided a window into the lives of people from other times and places. Drawings found in caves allow us to see the daily struggle ancient man endured. Plays written centuries ago in Greece are still performed every day. Music written for kings and queens can delight children of any means. The dances created around the fires by our ancestors to celebrate both triumphs and tragedy is still danced with pride in the spotlight of today's world. We have turned to the arts time and time again to learn about and understand our ancestors. As we Celebrate Diversity Through the Arts, the time has come to learn about and understand our brothers and sisters.

As the Program Director for Celebrate Diversity Through the Arts, it is our mission to host, promote, and showcase collaborative artistic programming to multicultural audiences. It is also to provide opportunities for the talented artists of these communities to present their arts and culture to the community as a whole. You are invited now to become part of this mission, and to share in our discovery of the arts from the diverse cultures that make-up this wonderful city.

During its initial year, Celebrate Diversity Through the Arts was truly an amazing experience. Experiencing the wide array of cultural artistic presentations broadened the horizons of all that attended and offered a host of opportunities for understanding each other. That is the unique power of the arts. It transcends the constraints of language, time and place and gives us an opportunity to share in the simple joy of life.

In addition to the African-American community, the artists and events in other communities, such as the Latino and Asian communities are supported through this program. Presentations such as the Dia de Muertos Festival and the CBAA Chinese New Year Show will be return to the Woodruff Arts Center, as well as a variety of other great performances and exhibitions. There are opportunities like this throughout the city all the time and this guide can help you discover some of them.
