Position Summary:

Recognizing and embracing the strength of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s collaborative environment, lead a team of volunteers and project support staff to achieve goals in volunteer fundraising projects, volunteer retention and membership initiatives, and to create a dynamic environment for volunteerism at the ASO.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

1.      Management and Planning

§         Works with volunteers, Executive and Development leadership to plan, set and achieve fundraising, program and membership goals and to establish new projects in support of ASO long-range plan.

§         Develops and implements budgets, timelines and other project management tools to achieve these goals; issues reports on the progress of these projects.

§         Manages all expenditures and revenues for Volunteer Services and Robert Shaw Room through Great Plains software.

§         Establishes detailed work plans for Volunteer Programs Office that provide critical professional support to the volunteers with emphasis on database management, contracting, project planning and management.

§         Ensures that volunteer leaders are trained and knowledgeable about ASO internal procedures such as finance and accounting, marketing, etc.

§         Provides professional expertise and leadership to volunteers on matters related to membership development, volunteer leadership training and development, fundraising, long-range planning and program development.

§         Works with other ASO departments to ensure that the needs of the volunteers are being met; acts as an advocate for the ASO leadership.

§         Secures approval for contracts and invoices that encumber the ASO and the Woodruff Arts Center.

§         Develops and implements volunteer recognition plan.

§         Manages and evaluates volunteer staff. 

2.     Administrative

§         Attends volunteer Board meetings and other meetings as needed.

§         Verifies all project revenue reports.

§         Ensures compliance with all ASO/WAC financial procedures: timely submission of all invoices & expense reports; monthly review of revenue and expense projections; financial reconciliation with ASO monthly statement; develops and oversees annual budget process for Volunteer office and major special events for approval by Board of Directors.

§         Assists with events, as needed.

SUPEVISory responsibility:               

Supervises Volunteer Office Staff.

 

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS OF WORK:

The Director of Volunteer Services is a full-time, position with hours from 9:00am – 5:00pm and with duties at events after office hours.  While conditions may alter the amount of time spent on any one area, the time spent on the position responsibilities can be expected to be a follows:

 

§         Fundraising, Volunteer and financial Management          90%

§         Administrative Services                                                       10%

 

CAMPAIGN ASSIGNMENTS:

The successful execution of this assignment will require the individual to serve the various campaigns of the ASO.  The division of assignments between current campaigns is:

 

§         Operating/Annual                     100% 

 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

§         Bachelor’s degree.

§         3-5 years of fundraising experience working with a volunteer organization.

§         Experience with Tessitura and Great Plains, or other fundraising/event/financial management software.

§         Experience with project & special event planning, budgeting and reporting.

§         Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

§         Word and Excel experience.
