The Woodruff Arts Center invites Atlanta to celebrate the arts family style at Target Free Family Day on Oct. 19.

Sponsored by Target, this day of nonstop action, performance and fun offers Atlanta families the chance to experience live music, dance exhibitions, storytelling, hands-on activities, backstage tours, an instrument petting zoo and more from the Woodruff Arts Center divisions. All activities are free and open to the public.

Division activities will include:

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

• Sit in on a symphony rehearsal, sing along with guest artists, and enjoy a small-ensemble performance.
• Go behind the scenes with a backstage tour.
• Make your own instrument.
• Learn how to conduct an orchestra at “Conductor School.”
• See the instruments up close in an instrument petting zoo.

Alliance Theatre

• Catch a free theater performance.
• Learn what it’s like to be onstage in an actor’s workshop.
• Experience a professional acting class.
• See how plays come together in a “sneak peak” of a rehearsal.
• Examine props and costumes up close.

High Museum of Art

• Go on a fantastic journey through the Museum’s galleries and experience works of art together.
• Create your own decorative, medieval sword and scabbard.
• Design and build three dimensional mini-museum pop-up sculpture to house your own collection of art.
• Make your mark on the monumental masterpiece mural.

Young Audiences

• Expand your creativity with activities led by artists from the worlds of dance, music, theater, literature and visual arts.
• Learn about dance, the literary arts and more at hands-on learning stations just for kids.
