SCHOOL PROGRAMMING
THEATRE AND LITERARY ARTS (continued)
Laughing
Matters
Laughing Matters—voted “Best
Improv Troupe in Atlanta” by Atlanta Magazine—uses spontaneous
humor and improvisational acting techniques to teach creativity, cooperation,
listening skills and positive response. Members of the troupe are professional
actors who regularly appear on movie screens, Atlanta stages and national
television.
Acting Out—Improv!
The program is a fun and participatory “Whose Line Is it Anyway?”
Laughing Matters’ quick wit and versatility is showcased as actors
instantly develop skits, songs and poems based on impromptu suggestions
and pre-submitted student writings or specific curriculum themes. (For
grades K–5, 6–8, 9–12)
Improvisation for Conflict
Resolution
Students examine conflicts and how emotions affect resolution. After looking
at situations from different angles, they discover countless possibilities
for making informed choices. Also available as a classroom workshop. (For
grades 3–5, 6–8, 9–12)
Mystery Reader’s Theatre
Become both cast and suspects in a hilarious play. Youth-friendly, violence-free
scripts are designed for about 30 individual and two large group roles.
Choose “The Show Might Go On,” “The Valentine’s
Day Mystery,” or “The Case of the Washed-Out Watercolor.”
(For grades 5–8, 9–12)
Creative Thinking (Workshop)
Think fast! Students brainstorm original ideas and work as a team to create
a variety of solutions to any challenge. This program may be tailored
for creative writing, behavior management, curriculum development and
more. (For grades 3–5, 6–8, 9–12)
Learning Through Laughter (Residency)
Teachers work with the actors to design the residency around curriculum
standards for any subject. Possible scenarios: writing mathematical poetry,
creating a class code for conflict resolution, or challenging students
to take charge of their learning by becoming Balboa’s crew of explorers.
